Faculty of Digital Arts and Sciences (FDAS)

The Faculty of Digital Arts and Sciences at Saint Petersburg University of Science and Technology is a leading institution for education and research in the fields of digital media, animation, and game design.

The faculty offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in four majors:

  • Digital Graphic Design: This major focuses on the principles and techniques of creating visual communication and expression using digital tools and platforms. Students learn how to design logos, posters, websites, apps, and other digital products that are aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly.
  • Computer Animation: This major covers the theory and practice of creating realistic and expressive animations using computer software and hardware. Students learn how to model, rig, animate, and render characters, objects, and environments for various purposes and genres, such as films, games, and commercials.
  • Game Design: This major explores the art and science of creating engaging and immersive games for entertainment, education, and social impact. Students learn how to design game mechanics, systems, narratives, and aesthetics, as well as how to test and evaluate their games with users and stakeholders.
  • Game Programming and Development: This major teaches the skills and knowledge required to develop games using various programming languages, frameworks, and engines. Students learn how to program game logic, physics, graphics, audio, and networking, as well as how to optimize and debug their games for different platforms and devices.

In addition to the degree programs, the faculty also offers a range of professional and educational programs that provide international certification and diploma in various aspects of digital imagery, such as photography, video, cinematography, editing, and animation. These programs are designed to enhance the skills and competencies of students and professionals who want to pursue careers or further studies in the digital media industry. The programs are:

  • International Certification of Digital Imagery Elementary Level: This program introduces the basic concepts and skills of digital imagery, such as image formats, resolution, color, composition, and editing. The program also covers the fundamentals of digital photography and video, such as camera settings, lighting, exposure, and framing.
  • International Certification of Digital Imagery Intermediate Level: This program builds on the elementary level and covers more advanced topics and techniques of digital imagery, such as image manipulation, filters, effects, and layers. The program also covers more aspects of digital photography and video, such as lenses, flash, focus, and audio.
  • International Diploma in Digital Imagery Professional Level: This program is the highest level of certification and diploma in digital imagery, and it requires the completion of a portfolio and a project. The program covers the professional standards and practices of digital imagery, such as ethics, copyright, and project management. The program also covers the specialized fields and genres of digital photography and video, such as photojournalism, fashion, nature, product, industrial, wedding, newborn, travel, and art.
  • International Certification of Digital Video and Cinematography Elementary Level: This program introduces the basic concepts and skills of digital video and cinematography, such as video formats, frame rates, aspect ratios, and codecs. The program also covers the fundamentals of cinematography, such as camera movements, angles, shots, and transitions.
  • International Certification of Digital Video and Cinematography Intermediate Level: This program builds on the elementary level and covers more advanced topics and techniques of digital video and cinematography, such as video editing, color grading, sound design, and subtitles. The program also covers more aspects of cinematography, such as lighting, composition, continuity, and storytelling.
  • International Diploma in Digital Video and Cinematography Professional Level: This program is the highest level of certification and diploma in digital video and cinematography, and it requires the completion of a portfolio and a project. The program covers the professional standards and practices of digital video and cinematography, such as scriptwriting, directing, producing, and distributing. The program also covers the specialized fields and genres of digital video and cinematography, such as documentary, fiction, animation, and experimental.
